Prairie Girl Bakery
18 King St E
Prairie Girl Bakery is strictly cupcakes, cupcakes, and cupcakes. They don’t serve anything else. They do have two different sizes - mini and regular - and three different types of cake - golden buttermilk, chocolate, and red velvet. The variety they serve comes out of the all the combinations of cake and icing.
I’m extremely sorry that I can’t tell you exactly which cupcakes are which in the picture, but I do remember having a golden buttermilk cupcake with vanilla bean icing and enjoying that specific one the most. The cake itself was moist, and vanilla bean-flavoured anything is my favourite.
I had their red velvet and chocolate cakes, too, and unfortunately, they did not deliver. The red velvet, being my favourite kind of cupcake, has to be great enough for me to give a cupcake joint praise it deserves. (So, bakeries, work on perfecting those red velvet cupcakes!) Also, I believe that cupcakes that pretty much have a one-to-one ratio of cake and icing goes a little overboard on the sweetness.
I must give them kudos for their stance against discounted day-old cupcakes and actually donating their leftover cupcakes to charity after closing.
If they toned down the amount of icing they put on each cupcake, I think I’d consider coming back to try the red velvet again (especially with this being a 5 minutes walk from George Brown), but until then, sorry, Prairie Girl, I’m not coming back for seconds.
