Greg’s Ice Cream

Admittedly, I haven’t tried many ice cream shops, but Greg’s is my current favourite!

Last summer, I had my first taste of Greg’s. My brother and I each had a scoop of Mint Oreo. The colour was strangely grey but likely naturally produced, unlike the bright green of most mint ice creams. The mint flavour wasn’t bold but incredibly subtle. It was refreshing. I’d bet it wouldn’t at all be overwhelming for those who’ve deliberately stayed away from its vibrant store-bought and franchise counterparts. And the oreo was ground up so finely (in spite of what the picture above might suggest), which made for such a satisfying texture. 

Since then, I’ve tasted several other flavours from Raspberry Lemon(ade) to Green Tea to White Chocolate, and I have never once been disappointed. There’s just something about the creaminess of Greg’s Ice Cream that makes it stand apart from all the other shops I’ve tried.

This spring, Merky finally had her first scoop. (Finally!) At the scooper’s recommendation, she had the Roasted Marshmallow — their specialty, the flavour I had been avoiding since I’ve never really been fond of marshmallows. (But, I do like marshmallows roasted over a campfire.) He gave me a sample of it, a rather hefty one, and I wish I never had my reservations about this flavour despite its popularity. Try the Roasted Marshmallow. I asked the Mint Oreo anyway for the sake of variety in our pictures, but I definitely know what I’ll be having on my next visit.

Also, I can’t forget to mention the usually happy employees, some of whom are incredibly generous like our Roasted Marshmallow scooper. Consistently great customer service.

Here’s a tip I got from our wonderful aforementioned scooper: A half scoop comes to $3 and a single scoop comes to $4 flat after tax — if you’re there with a friend, pay separately. Apparently, tax is more when your subtotal adds up to more than $4. So, if you buy two single scoops for you and your friend, I guarantee you’ll pay more than $8.
