Green Tea Cream Puff and Chocolate Eclair from Beard Papa’s (4300 Steeles Ave East)
Though I’m sure you all know what a cream puff looks like, I wish I had a picture of an open one. The flakiness of the choux pastry combined with the rich wet filling is exactly what makes a cream puff so drool-worthy.
Jerson went for the eclair, which is just a cream puff covered with chocolate. Good choice! You could amp an already good thing by pouring chocolate on top. I opted for just a cream puff but with a green tea filling instead of the original vanilla, cuz, well, I’m that stereotype Asian who loves her green tea ice cream and green tea Kit Kats. They even call it out on their website — it’s “an Asian favorite.”
They prepare these pastries on demand, taking a readymade puff and pumping it with your choice of flavour. While I prefer whipped cream or ice cream in my puffs (gotta go really airy or really dense) and cold, these, having a custard filling instead, were pretty good.
Thanks goes to my cousin, Roselle, for pushing me to try Beard Papa’s. As I’m not a huge fan of custard, I don’t see myself craving these for awhile, but I will say they’re a nice treat — just in case you find yourself on the 2nd floor of Pacific Mall, Beard Papa’s only location in Ontario.
