Buk Chang Dong Soon Tofu

Buk Chang Dong Soon Tofu
691 Bloor St. W
Toronto, ON

Definitely a late post, but I do remember enough details to give a real review. After some quick research, Tanner and I decided to make a trip for the best Bibimbap in Toronto. The hype around this Koreatown restaurant made it appealing on our last-minute run for food.

This restaurant lived up to its hype. Each dish was full of flavour and very, very affordable as all of the nine dishes on the menu were in the $7-$9 range.

Dumpling Soon Tofu + Dolsotbap - $7,08

This dish came with the regular banchan (side dishes) which are given at the beginning of every meal in korean restaurants. A plus to BCDST is the choice of how spicy you want your order. It isn’t dependent on the dish.

Dolsotbap is cooked rice in a stone pot (taken out by the waiter into the bowl on the right) and the Dumpling Soon Tofu is a stew of beef dumplings, tofu and vegetables brought to your table still boiling. It may not seem appealing but it really is one of my favourite dishes that I’ve ordered at any restaurant. The flavours worked perfectly with each other and throw it in with the dolsotbap, it gets even better. You, also, get the option of cracking an egg into the stew to let it cook while its boiling.

Stone Pot Bibimbap, $ 7,08

Again, served in a stone pot (wait, is is obvious this time?) and brought to your table sizzling hot. Bibimbap is generally served with different steamed vegetables, stir fried beef and a nice fried egg on top of a bed of rice. Hot sauce is always on the side for again the option of how spicy you want your meal.

I, personally, can’t imagine eating this dish without the hot sauce because I love my flavours and my sauces but Tanner had no problem eating the whole thing.

I definitely see why they received attention as having the best Bibimbap in Toronto just based on the quality of what’s served to you in that stone pot.

As an attempt to get the night started, we ordered a bottle of Soju (a Korean liquor) for $15. When we ordered it, I thought it would come as a cocktail like at bars that I ordered it at. However, obviously they insisted in letting us take it as shots. Soju and shots don’t mix in my opinion. Comment if you disagree?

Definitely a restaurant I’d come back to, BCDST is a restaurant that you’ll see is always packed with happy customers and is rightfully so. With this quality, these flavours and not to mention at these prices, all these meals are nothing to be sad about.
